Good Morning and Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a wonderful prosperous week filled with many good things. It was so warm in Arizona this week I started working in my garden. I am getting my raised beds ready for spring planting. The birds all seem so happy. They are coming by and playing and splashing in the bird bath. It’s so fun to watch them.

A beautiful crow pendant necklace.

This one reminds me of the simple beauties we all see each day in our lives.

I started metalsmithing as a hobby approximately 20 years ago. In the mid-90’s, I left a full time position as an instructor in the Paramedic Program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton, Alberta to pursue metalsmithing full time and have since developed my hobby into a successful small business. I relocated from Edmonton to Gabriola Island, BC in 1998 where I produced and sold my jewelry from my home-based studio/gallery and became an active member of the community Arts Council. In 2006, I relocated to Chemainus on Vancouver Island, BC and continue to produce my jewelry to date from my home-based studio/workshop as well as participate in local artist events.
After taking a couple of start-up classes at the Edmonton Cultural Centre, I continued to learn and refine my craft over the years by reading how-to books and articles and watching how-to videos, but mostly learning by trial and error so I consider myself to be self taught. I work with various metals but primarily focus on creating copper jewelry. I used to work primarily in sterling silver, but it simply got too expensive. I will still make a piece in silver if specifically requested; however, working in copper allows me to keep my work priced affordably for my customers. Many of my handcrafted jewelry designs are inspired by the nature of West Coast living as showcased in my heron and crow pieces of which I am most proud.

I am constantly aspiring to learn new methods and techniques including my most recent venture of flame painting on copper. The tools of my trade consist of a variety of jewelry-making supplies, findings, hammers, saw blades and so forth as well as a propane oxygen torch. To see more go here about
